April 3

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 12:00am on Friday, repeating until April 7, 2020

The below was sent via email to our church family and friends:

March 16, 2020

Dear First Parish Family and Friends,

Church Council met on Sunday evening to make decisions and take actions regarding the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus. Three decisions were made:

  1. Building use has been suspended effective immediately through April 7th for both internal and external groups.
    a. This includes all church committee meetings and activities. Other forms of meeting and staying connected (such as email, web conferencing or teleconferencing) are encouraged.
    b. Key fobs will be inactive for any non-essential people during this time. If access to the church is required, please contact the office and leave a voicemail message.

a. One exception is the Red Cross Blood Drive scheduled for Friday, March 20th, 2020. The blood drive will have less than 25 people at any given time and there is a critical need for blood supply.

All Church employees will be paid through the shutdown.  Employees should work from home as possible.

  1. Worship services inside our building are discontinued through April 7th, 2020.
    a. We are actively pursuing a technological solution to this such as live streaming or pre-recording sermon messages. There will be more information coming before Friday, March 20th.

The goal of these actions is to minimize the spread of the virus, ensure the safety of our employees and comply with the Governor of Massachusetts order to prohibit all gatherings over 25 people until April 7th, 2020.

As stated previously, we are preparing to leverage technology to keep us connected for worship.  Preparations for Good Friday and Easter Sunday are continuing.  We remain hopeful that we will be able to join together in the Sanctuary to worship soon. Please check the church’s voicemail and website for the latest updates.

We continue to pay our employees and keep the lights on and the building heated through this shutdown.  The Church Council asks the membership to be mindful of our ongoing expenses during this time and encourage all members to maintain their pledge commitments by going to the church’s website and donating on-line or by mailing donations and pledges directly to the church.

This is a trying time for all of us.  Your Church is here for you even though the building is not available.  We are charged to look after each other – the Body of Christ.  Every member should have a physical copy of the church directory and access to the Instant Church Directory App on your mobile device.  If you do not have it, please download it from the App Store and login with your email on file with the church.

We have a dedicated Diaconate who is tasked with the spiritual wellbeing of our membership.  They will be reaching out to their flock and checking in to see if there is anything that you may need.  Pastor John will continue to inform us of latest developments in worship and prayer. And most importantly there is the word of God which sustains us through all things.  Our Lord is speaking to us through these events and in His word. Go to Him in prayer.

You are not alone.

Just as He has carried us through to this point, May He continue to bless you and empower you to be a light to the world in dark times.

May God’s Peace be upon you,

Mark Hatheway,

April 3
