our vision

To be the epicenter of Christian revival in Wakefield and beyond.

our mission

To reflect the love of God by welcoming all people into a life-changing, ever-growing relationship with Jesus.

We are a welcoming Christian community of imperfect people who aim to reflect God’s love and live according to the spirit and teachings of Jesus Christ.

Our Beliefs

The Bible

We believe the Bible (consisting of the Old and New Testaments) is the only inspired, inerrant, infallible, and authoritative Word of God written.

One God

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ

We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.

The Holy Spirit

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by Whose indwelling power and fullness the Christian is enabled to live a godly life in this present world.

Salvation

We believe in salvation by God’s grace, through faith alone.

Unity

We believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in Jesus Christ.

Our Values

We reflect the love of God and live out our growing relationship with Jesus through Upholding Biblical Truth, Christian Education, Fellowship, Worship, Evangelism, Service, and Prayer

01

Upholding Biblical Truth

Everything we do and preach is rooted and based on the Bible.

(2 Timothy 4:1-5)

02

Christian Education

We teach biblical truth to children, youth, and adults to help them grow in faith.

(2 Timothy 3:16)

03

Fellowship

We live in community, in unity with each other, and welcome all to join us in growing a deeper relationship with Christ.

(Acts 2:42-47)

04

Worship

We regularly express our relationship with Jesus in worship, praising God in song and in His Word.

(Psalm 100 / Ephesians 5:18-20)

05

Evangelism

We share the Good News about experiencing new life in Jesus.

(John 20:30-31)

06

Service

We look outside the church to care for and serve the needs of others like Jesus did.

(Phil 2:4-11)

07

Prayer

We pray regularly, for we recognize the power of prayer and of communicating with God.

(James 5:13-18)

Strategy

We seek to strengthen and make children, youth, and adults disciples of Jesus through our strategy of the 4Es so they may have an ever-growing relationship with Jesus and lead others to do the same:

Exalt
We lead the church body to exalt the LORD in our worship services and in their lives.

Edify
We preach and teach the Bible to edify the church body.

Equip
We equip the church body to grow in Christ so they may help others in the community to do the same.

Evangelize
We evangelize to families and help them do the same in the community.

Our History

First Parish Congregational Church is one of constants in the history of Wakefield from the time of its inception in 1644 until present day. We are a medium-sized church located on the shores of Lake Quannapowitt, at the corner of Church Street and Lake Avenue.

Our fifth and current structure was completed in 1912. Our church building has been heralded throughout the years for its Byzantine-Romanesque architecture and the beauty of its interior. We believe our 378-year history is a testament of God’s faithfulness to First Parish since the Massachusetts Bay Colony was settled!
