our mission

Our mission is to reflect the love of God by welcoming all people into a life-changing, ever-growing relationship with Jesus.

We are a welcoming Christian community of imperfect people who aim to reflect God’s love and live according to the spirit and teachings of Jesus Christ.

Our Beliefs

The Bible

We believe the Bible (consisting of the Old and New Testaments) is the only inspired, inerrant, infallible, and authoritative Word of God written.

One God

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ

We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.

The Holy Spirit

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by Whose indwelling power and fullness the Christian is enabled to live a godly life in this present world.

Salvation

We believe in salvation by God’s grace, through faith alone.

Unity

We believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in Jesus Christ.

Our History

First Parish Congregational Church is one of constants in the history of Wakefield from the time of its inception in 1644 until present day. We are a medium-sized church located on the shores of Lake Quannapowitt, at the corner of Church Street and Lake Avenue.

Our fifth and current structure was completed in 1912. Our church building has been heralded throughout the years for its Byzantine-Romanesque architecture and the beauty of its interior. We believe our 378-year history is a testament of God’s faithfulness to First Parish since the Massachusetts Bay Colony was settled!
